Work in Progress: Restoring Hope for Abraham’s Family.

Background

Abraham, a private security Officer and father of six, lost his home during a night of heavy rains. The mud walls that once sheltered his family collapsed, leaving them exposed to many dangers, including snakes, mosquitoes, and other creeping elements. For months, Abraham and his children have relied on a temporary shelter of sticks and tarpaulin.

The Challenge

The loss of his home left Abraham feeling powerless. “Each time the clouds grow dark, my children hold onto me in fear,” he shared. “I want to protect them, but I have no safe place for them to sleep.” Without stable housing, the family remains vulnerable, and the children’s education has been disrupted. Abraham, in such a bad situation, got very sick to the point that he could not do his private security work anymore, and getting food to feed his children daily became a major challenge.

The Intervention (Ongoing)

In response, through its housing support program, John Bruns, the Founder of the Heart to Serve Mission, an American NGO, assessed Abraham’s situation and began working with skilled builders of a local NGO called the United Youth for Peace, Education, Transparency and Development in Liberia (UYPETDL) Inc., and Abraham and his older children.

A new home is under construction using durable materials designed to withstand future storms. Abraham has contributed labor, laying bricks and assisting builders, while local community members have volunteered their time.

The Current Situation

The foundation has been laid, and walls are rising. Although the family still lives in a temporary shelter, they now watch with hope as their new home takes shape. For Abraham, each brick is a sign of progress toward safety and dignity. Abraham project is expected to complete on September 1, 2025.

“I know my children will soon sleep without fear,” Abraham says. “This is the beginning of a better life for my family.”

Thanks to the Heart To Serve Mission for the funding support, and also to the hard-working Staff of the United Youth for Peace, Education, Transparency and Development in Liberia (UYPETDL) Inc. for a job well done.

Let Abraham, many other marginalized families are going through the same situations and need support. If you are interested in helping a family change their lives, please contact UYPETDL via https://www.unitedyouthpetd.com or the Heart To Serve Mission to give your donations and support.
